Conclusion
To conclude, our data visualizations and analysis of the hashtag #NotDying4WallStreet have pointed to some really important overarching themes, particularly within the United States. Our narrative reveals how politics and geography can play a role in the varying perceptions of this pandemic, and it almost reveals in a way what people tend to prioritize in times of huge societal events. For instance, we discovered how negative sentiments towards Wall Street were in more liberal and urbanized regions and how pro-Trump language was more likely to be found in tweets of #ReopenAmerica versus #NotDying4WallStreet. By looking at the concentration of where tweets came from, overall sentiments towards going back to work, and comparisons of tweets, we were able to better understand why some people were more in favor of or against strict Covid regulations. Through this, we can begin to separate people into groups that prioritize health and science by wanting to have a strict lockdown while others while others prioritize the economy by opposing this lockdown. With this, we hope that further questions are raised about other demographics or variables that play a role in these perceptions and how we can uncover the potential impact that these perceptions have on various communities.
